1. VACANCY NOTICE: FINANCIAL MANAGER - DURBAN

Dormac currently has a vacancy for a Financial Manager at its Durban office reporting to the Financial Director (Craig Samuel). The successful candidate will be responsible to plan and supervise accounting activities in the Group Financial Department.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure financial efficiency across all branches whilst maintaining a high standard of work…
  • Take charge of the month-end process & preparation of results for submission to management
  • Compliance with each of the Group financial report deadlines
  • Manage the Company’s Cash resources and preparation of cash forecasts
  • Prepare and manage the annual year-end
  • Take charge of the external year-end audit
  • Take charge of the Company’s tax responsibilities ensuring compliance with the Group’s tax policies and procedures
  • Management of the Company’s IT policies.

 
REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualified CA(SA) – not negotiable
  • Ability to work independently
  • Advanced Spreadsheet skills
  • Other IT business skills
  • Sound user experience on an ERP system. The company uses Infor-LN
  • Integrity and ability to handle discreet transactions

2. VACANCY NOTICE: HEAVY ENGINEERING TURNER - DURBAN

 

The Company seeks to appoint a Turner – Heavy Engineering to be based at its Machine Shop in Durban.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Program and operate in a heavy engineering service environment
  • Operate centre lathe with a bed size of 12-metres
  • Read, understand and transfer the drawings into “bedding language”
  • Ensure that all projects are completed within the relevant timeframe & budget
  • Train staff and apprentices under his responsibility
  • Maintain housekeeping
  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s Health & Safety policies

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant Trade Certificate – not negotiable
  • Substantial experience in heavy engineering production – At least five years’ post apprenticeship experience
  • The ability to interact in a service environment
  • Attention to detail

3. VACANCY NOTICE: ESTIMATOR - DURBAN

 

The Company currently has a vacancy for an Estimator at its Durban office. The successful candidate will be responsible to plan and supervise estimating in the Ship Repair Department.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Interpretation of customers’ requirements, terms & conditions and specifications relating to all ship repair tenders
  • Preparation of tender- and related documents
  • Follow up on quotations submitted and provide feedback on customer comments
  • Estimate labour, materials and other resource requirements
  • Carry out on-board inspections
  • General administrative duties

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years estimating experience in a ship repair environment
  • Quantity Surveyor/Mechanical Engineering/Marine Engineering qualification will be an advantage
  • Must be conversant with TNPA facilities, rates and procedures
  • Must be proficient with REFMAN
  • Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently
  • Advanced Spreadsheet skills

4. VACANCY NOTICE: PROJECTS ENGINEER - DURBAN

 

The Company seeks to appoint a Projects Engineer in the Ship Repair division, to be based at the Durban office. The successful candidate must be dynamic and proactive, with high skill levels and competencies.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyse scope of work and ensure that each project meets contractual expectations and is carried out to conform to quality and safety standards
  • Ensure all specifications from clients are recorded and communicated
  • Conduct technical calculations, i.e. strength & design
  • Compile method statements
  • Monitor projects to ensure compliance with technical specifications
  • Monitor & manage project cost control and scheduling on ERP-system
  • Co-ordinate with various departments and sub-contractors to achieve targets in line with project plan
  • Ensure that all legal requirements are adhered to
  • Oversee and assist with project estimation
  • Reporting on work-in-progress as well as performance

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • 5 years management experience within a ship repair environment
  • Candidate must be willing to travel both locally and offshore at short notice
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • High level of regard towards customer services
  • Good working knowledge of IACS regulations
  • Organisational, co-ordination and negotiation skills essential

5. VACANCY NOTICE: MECHANICAL FOREMAN - CAPE TOWN

 

The Company seeks to appoint a Mechanical Foreman to be based at its Cape Town Branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Company’s high level and standard of service delivery is maintained. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Define the scope of work in conjunction with the work list, detailing work methods and procedures
  • Ensure that the correct work-teams are put in place
  • Co-ordinate and supervise labour for maximum productivity
  • Review all activities and tasks
  • Order supplies, material & equipment
  • Prepare work- and timekeeping reports
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Control and Safety procedures
  • Ensure costs are management within budget
  • Compile and submit progress reports to Project Managers
  • Training of sub-ordinates
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering quality workmanship

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant technical qualification
  • Substantial experience in mechanical engineering – at least 10 years’ post apprenticeship experience
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ supervisory experience
  • Good leadership qualities
  • Sound verbal & written communication skills
  • Must be willing to travel both locally and offshore
  • Must be in possession of a valid, unendorsed driver’s licence
