The company provides owners and operators with a full spectrum of marine and industrial repair services and facilities, which are of the highest international quality standards with its internal quality management system and adherence to ISO 9001, quality standards. The company has developed its broad based black economic empowered principles and operates both nationally and internationally under the direction of majority shareholders.

Dormac has a trade record of offering a full marine engineering turnkey solution to its customers, from routine survey dockings to emergency repairs all of which are available, 365 days a year. Dormac also offers a wide range of specialised engineering services to industrial clients. These include amongst the others, heavy machining, steel and pipe fabrication. The company's head office is situated in Bayhead, Durban with branches in Walvis Bay (Namibia), Richards Bay, Cape Town and Saldanha Bay.

Dormac entered the market in 2007 with the successful life extension program completed for one of Technip's Vessels in Durban and has since developed the operational principles required to work in the oil & gas industry with an increase in safety awareness programs and quality management programs.

The African oil boom has resulted in the need for a reputable marine engineering company located in Africa with the necessary machinery, technical expertise and facilities to carry out large life extension programs coupled with an ability to service these structures throughout Africa on short notice, to which Dormac prides itself.

Safety, Health, & Environment

The offshore oil & gas environment is by its nature a hazardous environment. Dormac is fully committed to educating its employees, creating and maintaining a safe working environment for all of our employees and our clients. Our professional HSE team ensures that all the yards maintain and comply with all relevant HSE standards and are active in the workplace with educational programs , new employee inductions and are earnestly involved at all levels in operational planning.

All employee's whether permanent or contract are familiarised with the hazards of their respective working environments and applicable safety requirements by means of safety induction course, before being allowed to work on site. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is issued to each employee and the proper use of this equipment is explained and monitored continuously.

The HSE management employ's an open door policy and welcome's any additions or suggestions to improve Dormac's HSE plan and will often pair up with our customer's HSE management to form a united front on larger type projects where there are requirements from both the client and ourselves that need to be managed.

Quality Control & Assurance

Dormac is a South African Bureau of Standards accredited ISO 9001 company. The ISO 9001 quality management system is entrenched throughout our business units and in our day to day operational practices, which is monitored and documented by a knowledgeable team of quality control technicians, managed by highly experienced team of managers all with a vast amount of marine engineering knowledge.

The technicians are qualified multi-discipline NDT (Non Destructive Testing) operators who use various principles such as, Dye Penetrant (DP), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) to name a few, in order to maintain Dormac's strictly controlled internal quality assurance program.

Dormac is able to fabricate to a broad range of standards including ASME, IACS and API, and the customer is assured of a quality fabrication. Dormac's makes regular use of third party inspection authorities and works closely with the relevant Classification Society's Surveyor to ensure the relevant rules & regulations are adhered to.

Dormac's policy is to remain at the forefront of quality control and production by using the latest technology and practices available. All artisans employed are vetted to ensure that they have legitimate qualifications and during their course of employment their performance is monitored and corrected on a continuous basis.
