Dormac maintains a “State of the Art” Machine Shop that enables us to custom build new machinery and rebuild used machine components. Included in this facility is a steel fabrication shop and electrical shop.
Operating this facility adds one more link to the turn-key chain of services that Dormac provides. When the millwrights need components repaired or fabricated, we do it in-house.

Our machine shop in Durban and Richards Bay are fully equipped to carry out any kind of repair or manufacture of mechanical parts. Only experienced artisans under the full-time leadership of our engineering managers’ staff the shops.

The Machine shop is 4700 square meters of covered machine shop area with turning, boring and shaping capacity up to 25 tons with stress relieving furnace, all served by overhead carnage with a capacity of 25 tons.

Our vast array of capable equipment coupled with knowledgeable artisans, has empowered Dormac’s machine shop to gain an envious reputation as being able to complete emergency repairs as well as planned refurbishments in the allotted time frames at the right price. The machine shop is able to successfully refurbish or remanufacture any number of parts or mechanical accessories. The machine shop under the rules and regulations of International Class requirements as well as under the quality control of ISO 9002 requirements has set firm presidents in the local and international engineering fields.

Fabrication

Dormac : Industrial Engineering

Dormac are specialists in heavy marine & industrial fabrication, with a fully equipped workshop. Our workshop holds some large equipment including a hearth furnace with capacity for sugar roller shafts, shells, rudder stock and tail shafts.

Fabrication from ferrous and non-ferrous parts or complete assemblies are quoted on and manufactured on a 24 hour basis. Working in conjunction with the other divisions on a common project, costs are drastically reduced.

The benefits of a 24 hour operation i.e. eliminating daily shut down and start up delays, are reflected in our pricing structures, which provide Dormac with a major advantage over our competitiors.

The fabrication shop has an undercover area of 1000 square meters which is equipped with modern cutting, rolling, pressing and welding equipment, coupled with a 5000 square meter open air grillage area served by a 120 ton and 30 ton Goliath Crane.

DORMAC has the capability to machine complex 3D and 2D surfaces and shapes using CATIA V5 cad/cam software. These capabilities combined with experienced tool making artisans that allow DORMAC to service the automotive tool making industry and other allied avenues where complex surfaces and shapes are required for machinery.
